Hey guys, how’s it going? Rahul here coming in with a new blog! Yes guys! Our first movie blog! More are coming up soon. But for now lets move on to reviewing Captain Phillips!
This biographical, survival thriller was directed by Paul Greengrass. It is based off of a true story of the 2009 Maersk Alabama Hijacking.
Movie time: 2hrs 14mins
- Richard Phillips (Tom Hanks)
Richard Phillips takes command of an unarmed container ship from te port of Salalaha, Oman to Mombasa, Kenya. He and First Officer Shane Murphy (Michael Chernus) order strict security precautions on the vessel and carry out practice drills. During the practice drill, the vessel is chased by Somali pirates. There were two sets of pirates on two separate motor boats. The radio signals were jacked by the Somali’s and Captain Phillips knew this. So, he acts like he is calling warships. One of the boats and groups turn round and go back out of fear. Soon, even the second boat begins to have engine problems and is forced to stop. The next day, the same boat and group that had engine problems began making their way to the ship again. Despite the best efforts of Phillips and his crew, the pirates make it on board and hijack the boat. The story continues….
The story, plot, acting, directing are all amazing in the movie. Since the story is based off of a true one it makes the movie all the more interesting. No part of the movie can be considered ‘boring’ if you pay attention. The portrayal of the hijacking was excellent. I honestly find this movie to be very enjoyable. The story that they picked up was a very good one and they put it to their best use to portray it in the most realistic way possible. Which they did. Overall, really good movie!
I would give this movie 4/5 stars.
