Hey guys, how’s it going? Rahul here coming in with a brand new blog. I know, I know… “Rahul is making back to back blogs! WOAH!”. Just thought this would be a cool idea to do first impressions on TV shows and anime’s. So let’s begin!
This anime, Bungou Stray Dogs, was recommended to me by my brother and after quite some time I decided to finally watch it! And let me just say it now, first episode, a.k.a. first impression, GREAT!
Ok so we are stated off into the anime with a very ‘serious’ note. The character is hungry, homeless and an orphan (name: Atsushi, I hope the spelling is correct). Not the most likeable scene. Quite odd if you ask me. My reaction to this scene was like ‘ooooh…. ok…. shokugeki no soma much’.
As the anime progresses, it gets better. They give us their comedy scene and introduction of a new character (who I absolutely love in this episode)(name: Dazai). The display of this scene was actually really entertaining. It had its own sort of humor but it maintained the standard of seriousness that it required. More introductions and a great scene overall. This scene was really what caught my attention and really made we watch with more enthusiasm which they had lost me with in the first scene.
Introduction of another character (can’t remember the name) who brings another piece to the elemental puzzle of personalities required in almost every anime. This scene moves into a restaurant and we are shown some more great humor and also given a little secret (the basis of the whole anime). We are also introduced to the plot of the episode and are given a back story of Atsushi. Another highly entertaining scene.
And finally, the last scene. They are in a warehouse where the main plot and the basis of the story in unveiled. This is really what changed this anime from good to great. The perfect way to show us all the main characters and to display how cool each character is. Really unpredictable scene and a great way to start off your experience. I really love how they show how casual Dazai is which really makes me love the character he is. Really a great scene and really killed me inside to watch the next episode.
This all being said the anime did feel very clichéd in both character form and in the way that the story is. The anime really did give a fantastic first impression. An episode filled with just the right amount of seriousness, drama, comedy, entertainment etc.
Two things I absolutely did not like:
- The number of times they showed us Atsushi’s back story. It was annoying and it felt like they were trying to waste time
- The ending song was really boring and long!
Overall, the characters and their personalities and looks are great and the quality is A1. A great anime concept and story. Can’t wait to see more!!
