After realizing that virtual reality and its “full-dive” has so many problems associated with it, augmented reality becomes the new hype. In this, the virtual reality comes to real life through a new form of technology. But, the creator of the new technology has other hopes. After losing his daughter in Sword Art Online, he wishes to collect all of her memories from the Sword Art Online survivors and create an AI of his daughter. But to do this, all other SAO players must lose precious memories or to some extent, die. So, Kirito, Asuna and friends must stop this from happening.
It took so long for this movie to finally come out in proper print and I, for one, would definitely not watch it in camera print. Starting off, this movie was WAY better than I expected it to be. I thought “Oh, movie. I don’t think they could possibly come up with a better idea and this is definitely going to fail.” Boy was I wrong. The movie had the perfect mix of romance, action, good story, good characters and good music. The movie started us off with a great brief recap of what happened in the first two seasons. Moving on, we are introduced to the new gaming form of augmented reality and are shown how weak Kirito has become over the years. Asuna on the other hand, pretty as ever, is still pretty fit and strong. Keeping the story still very linked to Sword Art Online was one of the best things about the movie. And, they didn’t deviate from this fact even once. Making the story based on an incident in SAO, the enemy from the same guild as Kirito and Asuna in SAO, and also keeping the same bosses from SAO. The movie provided us with some of the best action scenes that I had seen in the anime. And there were SO MANY of them. We are also given some of the good old Asuna and Kirito romance that we all love with a marriage proposal on the way. Towards the end, we are given a great fight where we truly see the strong Kirito against Eiji and at the end we get to finally see the boss from the 100th floor of Aincrad against all the best characters from SAO, ALO and Sinon (GGO). The only one complaint I would have is how the animation felt slightly less rugged for what I would like in an action anime. But, absolutely great directing and honestly, one of the best anime movies I have ever seen. A must watch for all SAO fans. We are alos given a hint for season 3. Can’t wait. Overall amazing.
I would give this movie 4/5 stars.
