Classroom of the Elite: Anime

Hey guys, how’s it going? Rahul here coming in with a brand new blog. Was trying to finish up this anime for te review which is why I was 2 days late. My 12th starts in 2 days. Anyways, let’s begin!

About:

This drama, physcological anime a.k.a ,Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e,

was written by Shōgo Kinugasa and was aired in July, 2017.

No. of episodes: 12

Characters:

  • Kiyotaka Ayanokouji
  • Suzune Horikita
  • Kikyou Kushida
  • Airi Sakura

Story:

Koudo Ikusei Senior High School seems all good at first. With a lot of freedom and too much money to spend, it is any child’s dream school. Also, being highly ranked you couldn’t ask for more. But, soon the children realise, classes are based on merits and only higher classes are given special treatment.

Kiyotaka Ayanokouji, a new student in class D (where the worst are placed) meets Suzune Horikita who wishes to climb up to class A. To do so, the class requires points which they obtain by working together.

Review:

After constantly being pushed by my friend to watch this anime I decided to give it a try and, let me say, I was quite impressed. This anime is definitely a lot of fun. With some above average animation, an enjoyable story line and a great ending, this anime really surprised me in terms of what I expected.

So, the anime provided a nice story where there is this weird (but cool) school and the children are tested initially based on how they would spend their money and go about their daily lives. But of course, where there is good there is bad as well, so things turn for the worse and students must learn that everything is not given so easily in life. A good message being sent throughout.

The main character, Ayanakouji is awesome. He has such a cool, ‘I don’t want attention’ attitude but you can still see that he has a lot of potential but doesn’t like to show it off. I, personally, didn’t like Horikita’s character as a loner who doesn’t interact with anyone. I love how every episode was important and provided an essential piece of information for upcoming episodes. This was a perfectly made 12 episode anime. They definitely used their episodes effectively and did not rush the anime in the process. There was also a filler episode in such a short anime which was quite a surprise for me.

I must say I was disappointed that the anime felt like it was advertising on its portrayal of women in a very objectifying manner. But hey, all the characters did look really good (and being a guy myself I must say, the girls were definitely kawaii).

The opening song was really good and the ending song was average. I especially liked the last few episodes where they were made to stay on an island for 7 days and how so many plans and schemes were made. It was finally in the last episode that Ayanakouji caught my attention with his plans and schemes and what he plans to do in the future. It is actually quite exciting and has gotten me really excited for a season 2.

I would definitely recommend this anime. It has the perfect blend of drama, mystery and comedy with a really nice story line. Overall really good.

Rating:

I would give this anime 4/5 stars.

I really enjoyed the second half of the series—the first half was almost laughable in some places, but the latter portion was so much smarter and had a sense of humor about it. The show seemed to find its way, and I anticipated new episodes each week. A lot of fun.

I agree. The second half was so enjoyable and had such great planning as well. The show really did have a good direction and really stood out to me as a 12 episode anime. Thanks for your opinion!
