Tokyo Ghoul (Season 3): First Impression

Hey guys, how’s it going? Rahul here coming in with a brand new blog. Hope everyone’s week is going amazing. Mine is going pretty damn good. My parents got me a scooter so I’m really enjoying that.  So, let’s begin.

The season is finally out and that was more than I could ever ask for! This long awaited season has finally arrived but not really with a bang… Let’s just say that for the first 15 mins you would probably be like “What the heck is going on” if you didn’t read the manga (like me). Heck, for a majority of the episode I didn’t know if the white haired dude was even Kaneki!

To break it down, this isn’t a spoiler and it’s just an explanation of what has happened between season 2 and 3. So, Kaneki does lose to Arima and completely loses his memories. When he gains consciousness, he’s made to believe he is a member of the CCG under a new name of Sasaki Haise.

So, like I said, the first 15 minutes was like “Woah” for me. We see 2 characters we have no idea about going around killing other ghouls for the CCG who are ghouls themselves. They do explain a bit about the Quinces but there’s definitely more to it. The first episode was not as good as I expected it to be.

Furthermore, the animation of the anime feels quite different. It doesn’t have that refined touch to it and feels kinda off. Although the story is slowly going along with the manga, if the anime doesn’t show a proper explanation quickly things are going to go south for sure.

The only amazing scene was the last one where we really see our beloved Kaneki Ken getting ready for a real fight as his true self. It is really exciting re visiting old memories and is the only thing that made sense this episode. It is also one of the only reasons I really want to see episode 2.

The opening was just average. I guess nothing could really ever be better than season 1 opening. The ending was quite soothing and was a great song in itself but it didn’t suit the anime at all especially after all the action.

All this being said, the anime did finally release and my excitement levels and expectations are super high for this season. A below average start but I  really hope it does pick up. Overall meh.
